Answer by Caspar Sonnen:
Besides ARG’s and transmedia fiction projects, a lot of really interesting new media projects are being created in the creative documentary field too. Many of these are successfully experimenting with a multitude of platforms and media to tell interactive and/or participatory non-fiction stories.
One of the most interesting new documentary genres coming out of this in recent years is the interactive webdocumentary, which tells its story primarily on the web, often in combination with a linear documentary film, a mobile app, a newspaper or magazine essay, an exhibition, live events, etc.

My personal favorites include:

In 2007, I started IDFA DocLab (www.doclab.org) at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (www.idfa.nl). IDFA DocLab is a program to showcase new forms of documentary storytelling and technology. For more info about the projects mentioned above and links to other non-fiction new media projects, check out http://www.doclab.org/tag/web-documentary.
